Tips for eating healthily when you are older…

Eating healthily, along with physical activity, is important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Eating a diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low- or non-fat dairy can also help reduce the potential risk of health problems such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.



Please remember, healthy eating is not about following a strict diet or starving yourself of the foods that you enjoy.  Eating is an essential part of life, so enjoy it!

Follow the 5 simple tips to help maintain a healthy diet and an overall healthy lifestyle.

  1. Try Something New.

    When out there shopping, try throwing something different into the trolley.  For inspiration, I love trawling through youtube at new and exciting recipes to try. and snacks that you enjoy. Once you have found one that you like, keep it so that you can create a collection of healthy meals you’ll look want to eat again and again.

  2. Choose good company.  Choose good friends to eat with

    I cannot think of a better way to enjoy eating than with friends, can you? Cooking at home not only saves you money but also helps you stick to a healthy eating regime. Sharing the meal with a friend can make the meal that much better and more enjoyable. If you like to entertain, maybe even throw a healthy food-based party!

  3. Discover easy-to-make healthy meals.

    Getting to the shops can be challenging in itself as we get older. So, when you go shopping have in your mind to go for healthy snacks that have a long shelf-life or are easy to store. Frozen veg bags, tinned fruits and bagged nuts are great ideas for healthy foods to keep in your arsenal.  

  4. Change your diet one step at a time.

    Healthy eating shouldn’t be a sprint race,  it’s a lifestyle choice.  To give your body and mind the best chance of success, take small steps, maybe swapping white bread with whole-grain, or drinking water instead of sweet or fizzy drinks.

  5. Do it today!

    Wherever you are in your life and whatever your age, good food and nutrition will help you stay healthy and help you do the things in life that you want to do. It is never too late to eat healthily. Make a healthier lifestyle choice today and stick at it!
